Seascape Paintings

The continual changing light and colour of the sea is a challenging experience for a painter directly working from life. The inspiration of these paintings is the surreal effects that certain seascapes induce when you experience them. I found that the seascape around Ryde in the Isle of Wight was compelling to capture. The sheer subtlety of changing light created transitions of cool and warm colours.

The Cornish Cove represented is near Porthreath, Redruth, which has provided a unique interplay of colour and scale reflected from the cliffs and rocks into the sea in an enclosed space. Alternatively, Lulworth Cove with its crescent shaped form encases an area of light reflecting off the sea. This body of paintings representing surreal seascapes are a continual exploration in my work.
